Snapshots of the Journey

If you ever wondered
What to do
Where to go
How to move
in that critical moment
when action was required
Then pay attention.
I’ll show you what to do.
How to take control
Through a channel where information
Passes from teacher to student.
As it always has

So if you want to unlock your true potential.
As a person.  As a physical being.
Then you need this process
The journey to black belt
More importantly, you’ll need a guide
A friend who’s been down that path
and now that path is waiting for you

I’ll get you started, on your own journey,
Where you can learn physicality and friendship.
A place where you learn to how protect yourself
From the ground up.
Old ways and new.  Classic and modern.
Jiu Jitsu is an answer.  To help.  Improve.
Your life, and the lives of others around you.
To arm yourself without arms.
To use power without force

You see, what I’m teaching is physical literacy.
For modern men. Women.  Warriors.
In this age, we use our bodies to fine tune our minds
And then take that increased capacity out into the world

To improve it.
To lead others.
This channel is your training ground.
To black belt and beyond.
Into real understanding of what this art is
I can walk you down that path
Jiu Jitsu will be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done
And you’ll love it, because it’s one of the hardest things you’ve ever done

There are no words to describe how deep this study is.
To provide a mental oasis in a world of endless distraction
It takes dedication.  It takes heart.
The challenges are real and so are the rewards.
Arm yourself with knowledge, experience, and
Always remember, If you fall down seven times,
You’re getting up eight. That’s the warrior spirit.

Now let me show you how
To draw your own images
On the canvas of a mat.

Thank You Alaska

Thank you Alaska! It’s been a fantastic 2 weeks as a guest professor at Gracie Barra Alaska. Huge thanks to Jarvis Edwards, Grant Birmingham, and all the instructors and students for making me feel so welcome.

I was also fortunate to catch up with some friends and family, including Cari Boltz Zawodny, Guy Conley, Arnel ‘Tony’ Faralan, Sergei Merkushev, Luke Rambur, Becky Grunder, Mary Valero Bloes, and my homeboy Eric Tuott. Spending time with friends and family was good for the soul!

New adventures await, including a trip to Italy and Germany next month to connect with David Atkinson and Björn Friedrich. Stay tuned…

Private Lessons: Jonathan Knipping

Very happy to share this latest video: A private lesson with Jonathan Knipping in Chicago, shot with 3 cameras and lovingly assembled for your viewing pleasure. The teaching is spontaneous and there’s something for everyone, regardless of your skill level. Just a small sample of the content available at my new channel ROYDEAN.TV.

Check it out!

Chicago and the East Coast 2016

Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Chicago and the East Coast! I gave 2 seminars, one at RDA Affiliate Atlas Extreme Team, under the capable guidance of Chris Mikuta, and one at Kikumatsu Dojo, which was hosted by Jonathan Knipping, and filmed with 3 cameras. There’s a clip us of rolling that’s getting a lot of views right now. But the private lesson and seminar were even better. Stay tuned.

I have many people to thank for helping make the last 10 days such a success.

First, of course, is Chris Mikuta, who also brought the RDA affiliates back together for the weekend. All of them have evolved in their games since I last saw them. Special thanks to those who traveled from afar, including Jabonn Flurry, Jack Smail, Alan Shade, Demitra Warren Shade, and Åshild JD Trædal.

Then I headed to Maine to connect with my homeboy Rick Ellis, and even got a little training in with the very chill, but also very skilled, Shaun Durfee, who has one of the two “kids only” academies in the country. Awesome spot.

Back in the desert for a few days before I head to Alaska!

Overhook Series | The Norway Seminar

I’ve gotten so many questions on why the person would want to pull their arm out in the Overhook to Armdrag video I recently released, that I decided to share the entire sequence.  Enjoy.  I’ve used this for years with great success.

The New Channel

Here it is people.  The new channel.  It works magnificently.  And it looks, I must admit, quite badass.  You can subscribe in the navigation bar above.

So what’s included?  Everything.  The Collection, and more.  Yes, there’s the White Belt Bible through Black Belt Requirements.  Year One Seminars, in fact all my seminars, No Gi Essentials, Art of the Wristlocks, etc.  Classics and new releases.  Every title I’ve produced, plus belt demonstrations, an Academy archive on unseen material, and more.

There’s a flexibility to include more with this new platform, VHX.  I included a few uncut versions of key videos, including my 2001 match with Nick Diaz and a full 45 version of my second degree black belt demonstration.  There is some cool stuff in here, at the highest resolution possible.

You can access videos on your computer, tablet, or phone online or through the VHX app. You can watch it on your television, or even sync videos for offline viewing later.  I just uploaded both days of The Norway Seminar and it looks great.  The future looks bright for this new platform, and all my new projects will be distributed here.  I’m heading to Chicago and Germany later this year, and plan and sharing both seminars through ROYDEAN.TV.  Cool vids on the horizon.

I really feel that this channel should be a supplement for everyone that trains.  I want to make it accessible to all, educational, and an enjoyable user experience.  I encourage you to try it free and then let me know your thoughts.

Roy
