Huge congratulations to RDA BJJ brown belt Ben Dyson for winning the Newaza Challenge: UK tournament. Ben’s final opponent was the formidable Tom Breese, current UFC fighter and a brown belt under the respected Firas Zahabi. Study on this.
Huge thanks to my man Robb Wolf for having me on the Paleo Solution Podcast! We had a great conversation on jiu jitsu, business, and my new book, Becoming the Black Belt. Hopefully it will help spread jiu jitsu to a few more health conscious and athletic folks.
If you ever wondered
What to do
Where to go
How to move
in that critical moment
when action was required
Then pay attention.
I’ll show you what to do.
How to take control
Through a channel where information
Passes from teacher to student.
As it always has
So if you want to unlock your true potential.
As a person. As a physical being.
Then you need this process
The journey to black belt
More importantly, you’ll need a guide
A friend who’s been down that path
and now that path is waiting for you
I’ll get you started, on your own journey,
Where you can learn physicality and friendship.
A place where you learn to how protect yourself
From the ground up.
Old ways and new. Classic and modern.
Jiu Jitsu is an answer. To help. Improve.
Your life, and the lives of others around you.
To arm yourself without arms.
To use power without force
You see, what I’m teaching is physical literacy.
For modern men. Women. Warriors.
In this age, we use our bodies to fine tune our minds
And then take that increased capacity out into the world
To improve it.
To lead others.
This channel is your training ground.
To black belt and beyond.
Into real understanding of what this art is
I can walk you down that path
Jiu Jitsu will be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done
And you’ll love it, because it’s one of the hardest things you’ve ever done
There are no words to describe how deep this study is.
To provide a mental oasis in a world of endless distraction
It takes dedication. It takes heart.
The challenges are real and so are the rewards.
Arm yourself with knowledge, experience, and
Always remember, If you fall down seven times,
You’re getting up eight. That’s the warrior spirit.
Now let me show you how
To draw your own images
On the canvas of a mat.
The Channel for Modern Warriors.
More good work from our family in Moscow. Congrats to teacher and student!
Check out this purple belt demonstration by John Dreylick, a student from The Stillness Gym. So proud to see my affiliates developing great martial artists in their own communities.
Something to consider from a great man.
Thank you Alaska! It’s been a fantastic 2 weeks as a guest professor at Gracie Barra Alaska. Huge thanks to Jarvis Edwards, Grant Birmingham, and all the instructors and students for making me feel so welcome.
I was also fortunate to catch up with some friends and family, including Cari Boltz Zawodny, Guy Conley, Arnel ‘Tony’ Faralan, Sergei Merkushev, Luke Rambur, Becky Grunder, Mary Valero Bloes, and my homeboy Eric Tuott. Spending time with friends and family was good for the soul!
New adventures await, including a trip to Italy and Germany next month to connect with David Atkinson and Björn Friedrich. Stay tuned…
Very happy to share this latest video: A private lesson with Jonathan Knipping in Chicago, shot with 3 cameras and lovingly assembled for your viewing pleasure. The teaching is spontaneous and there’s something for everyone, regardless of your skill level. Just a small sample of the content available at my new channel ROYDEAN.TV.
Check it out!
Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Chicago and the East Coast! I gave 2 seminars, one at RDA Affiliate Atlas Extreme Team, under the capable guidance of Chris Mikuta, and one at Kikumatsu Dojo, which was hosted by Jonathan Knipping, and filmed with 3 cameras. There’s a clip us of rolling that’s getting a lot of views right now. But the private lesson and seminar were even better. Stay tuned.
I have many people to thank for helping make the last 10 days such a success.
First, of course, is Chris Mikuta, who also brought the RDA affiliates back together for the weekend. All of them have evolved in their games since I last saw them. Special thanks to those who traveled from afar, including Jabonn Flurry, Jack Smail, Alan Shade, Demitra Warren Shade, and Åshild JD Trædal.
Then I headed to Maine to connect with my homeboy Rick Ellis, and even got a little training in with the very chill, but also very skilled, Shaun Durfee, who has one of the two “kids only” academies in the country. Awesome spot.
Back in the desert for a few days before I head to Alaska!
I’ve gotten so many questions on why the person would want to pull their arm out in the Overhook to Armdrag video I recently released, that I decided to share the entire sequence. Enjoy. I’ve used this for years with great success.
